This work week begins with footnotes that happily reference Solange Knowles’ “Almeda,” a song on her 2019 When I Get Home album, which always makes my good days better.
This song references “Florida Water,” an essential oils mix thought to be a healing tonic. Knowles’ ancestral past in Louisiana, part of the global south that includes Florida, is evoked in Florida water’s potent energy that – alas – cannot compete with the faith of black folk.
Since I am greatly interested in both faith and Florida, I’m up in my happy feelings. Happy Monday.
Did not get to see Beyonce’s baby sister in England this past summer, but one day.
