In between prepping for the semester and writing, one detour beckoned as I did a bit of housekeeping. What to do with all of those old magazines? The latest issue of Vogue, which celebrates its 125th anniversary, inspired me to take some of those mags, most of them from Vogue, and glue them inside an old Samsonite my husband found on the side of a road here in Alabama.
The images made me think about the very things before me as a researcher and instructor (blackness, womanhood, music, movement, nation, capitalism, humanity, etc).
The images also provided room to remind myself to stay strong during this difficult political climate (as I help others do the same).
And now back to work.
