I am excited about having dinner with Artist Phoebe Beasley and several colleagues tonight. She will be speaking tomorrow at 5:30 pm at Tuscaloosa’s Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center, 620 Greensboro Avenue.
Beasley’s serigraph “Langston Hughes Suite: Mother to Son” (1998), part of a collaborative project with the late Maya Angelou, is slated for inclusion in a Spring 2017 exhibition being curated by several faculty. Some of us will also use art from Tuscaloosa’s Paul Jones Gallery in our lesson plans in Spring 2017. Beasley’s visit is part of the Paul Jones Collection Lecture Series.
Beasley’s work is in the collection of many public figures, among them her late dear friend Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey, Grant Hill and Samuel Jackson.
